Tailynn Lorenz Reflection #2

Welcome to my Brain with ADHD

By: Tailynn Lorenz

Do you have ADHD? Since When? Why don’t you show it?

When I was diagnosed with ADHD At the age of 7 a lot of kids saw me as if I was a freak. As a kid I was an outcast because I was like Tigger yes Tigger from Winnie the pooh. I was hyper, always wanted to play. Couldn't stay still nor was able to focus on any of my activities. I was on medication and still am till now. I see ADHD as a big part of my lifestyle it's not a Illness to me but more of my personality. I'm bubbly, Hyper, Yes I may get distracted at time, I leave my work to the end but am always reliable, and just know I wont ever bore anyone since I'm always super energized for fun. Flaws that I do hate about my ADHD. That's when it comes to school work, I do it yes but I always leave it till last minute. It can be due to getting distracted, forgetting, or just not wanting to stay still for a while. Want to learn more about my medication or how does it work? My medication sometimes helps me to focus but it's not the main reason for its use. My medication is mainly to keep me still, so I can continue my tasks seated and not wandering around. Another question that people ask me is how do your loved ones deal with your ADHD and also How does your Brain work with ADHD? Well my family doesn't see me as anything other than a sweet bubbly girl that enjoys her life day by day and that she's willing to do anything for everyone to make them feel loved. Like I said my ADHD is just part of my personality, to think of it I don’t know who I'd be without it. Now let's talk about how my brain processes things, an example I can give since I will be talking about the presentations is when Group 3 was talking about Anxiety and PTSD, I was listening to their perfect examples but at the same time I was thinking of past memories were I ever dealt with anxiety at the same time, then I was also thinking about what should I eat for breakfast and what my dog would want to eat for breakfast. My brain scrambles around and I do think of various things in one go. Now let's stop talking about my ADHD and let's talk about the Projects.

As the Projects were being announced 2 weeks before the due date I was

Very confused since there were 3 different things to do. As this was my first week as class leader I felt bad giving others wrong information which I did until it got clarified by Professor Sinkoff what they had to do. I felt like the groups were struggling a little but the good thing is that they all tried and managed to do everything on time.

On Presentation Day Group 3 started first, They did amazing as they each shared their own ideas about anxiety and how some have experienced different ways of anxiety. Their explanation was just perfect to the very end. A little thing that I will just add on is that I myself know a bit about anxiety, mainly PTSD, I will give my own example just to make it clear. When I was 12 I went to a school summer camp where they would take kids on field trips and stuff, well the school took us to the zoo and what happened was since the group of kids that I was with we were somewhat the oldest group in the camp, our teacher told us to walk alone around the whole zoo and not follow the rest of the teachers. As given the Liberty to roam around a Huge zoo, what do you think happened in a huge zoo? WE GOT LOST! We lost our teachers and all the other groups. We also lost our sense of direction because everything looked the same to us. As we searched and searched for a worker from the zoo a giant storm fell on us and it was pouring. We were all terrified, we didn't know what to do or where to go especially since a huge rain was falling on us. Well to cut the story short I get PTSD from that day whenever I get caught in a bad rain or whenever I go to the zoo. I tremble and cry because It still scares me to this day.

Let's continue with Group 2, Group 2 Presented Autism and the different types of Autism there are in the world. They gave very good examples but just wish there was less writing and more examples to it. Autism is a very Important topic now in age as 7/10 kids may have autism. Autism isn't something that people should fear or be ashamed about like how I said before with my ADHD. I just see it as Unique, why should someone be “Normal” when you can be unique and different. A personal thing I can say about Autism is my Younger cousin she's a fraternal twin only one has this autism and its Asperger. Asperger's is a very advanced Autism, Many important people in the world actually had this autism and most of us didn't know that. Leonel Messi, Albert Einstein, and Tim Burton are a few people that I know have this autism and in my eyes they are just amazing people. All the examples that group 2 gave were all amazing.

Now for group 1, In group 1 I saw that mainly everyone did their part but not everyone presented, I felt bad because since they had SLD (Specific Learning Disabilities) I would have preferred to listen to everyone's opinions and examples. Besides that everyone's Everyone did amazing, they all have some ideas to better understand each topic and everyone tried their best, that's all that counts. <3
