Zainab Awale Reflection #1

My experience with a Zoom powerpoint Presentation

I have done group Powerpoints before and i love them!
Getting to work with other people to make a nice presentation
is always very fun and exciting. However, this was my first time
meeting with a group virtually to complete
a Powerpoint presentation.

Now I'm not going to lie, I was a little nervous in the beginning. I used to believe that it was easier to meet in person to make the power points but my group and I had a great experience. I got to meet several new people that brought a variety of ideas to our presentation. Each person did their slides on time and were very creative in the process.

Preparing the presentation

Taileen, our group leader, helped me immensely with my portion of the powerpoint. I can speak for all the other members that she was a great group leader. In our Whatsapp group chat, she was always the first to remind us of our parts in the presentation and always offered to help if we had any trouble or concern. She taught me a lot of tricks like sharing documents with the group and making creative power points. Taileen now moved up to being our class leader. I am happy for her because I think she fits the role. Good luck Taileen, you are a great leader!

IN CHARGE OF SHARING MY SCREEN

Our group was the first to present. One of the members needed to share their screen to display the powerpoint, so I volunteered. In the beginning of the presentation, I got super nervous because Regina was trying to read the title of the chapter, but I did not understand her in the moment. So for the first five minutes we were trying to figure out what slide needed to be on the powerpoint. However, I would say that was the only issue we had with sharing the screen. I tried my best to focus on every member's signals to know when the right time was to change the slides. I just really want to avoid skipping slides when the person presenting is not finished. I rather there be a long pause and be fully certain that they are ready.

I enjoyed speaking to the class on the information that i gathered from my topic. I truly believed I was going to be nervous and shaky, but once I started to speak, I found my words flowing smoothly. I tried my best to describe all the points I was trying to make. I had discovered that the best way to do this is by providing examples to the points I am stating. For instance, the chapter that my group and I covered, had a lot to do with using time wisely so i believe i accomplished to do just that!

Fun Fact!: I am actually very close to one of the members in my group. Monica and I chose this online class together, and we were thrilled when we ended up in the same group. I volunteered to share my screen for our presentation, and when it was her turn to speak, she knew I was responsible for changing the slides. I waited for her signal, which turned into a funny moment for the both of us!

Overall, our group did an amazing job! We each learned a lot, from developing leadership skills to creating engaging Powerpoint presentations. Professor Sinkoff used a creative approach to help us learn the chapter and collaborate effectively. Im excited about the future presentations my group and I will work on. From this presentation, i discovered many features of powerpoint, allowing me to get creative with animations, visuals, icons, and more.

Moving On

After we had presented, it was Group 2's turn to present. I decided to take notes during their presentation, so that I can look back when I had to write about them in my blog. Group 2 opened up with a very creative first slide for their powerpoint. I got some ideas from them to use for my next presentation. For example, the first three people that represented in this group had moving pictures known as gifs. My eyes directly went to them. It is nice seeing how people have different ideas for presentations and seeing it in action. I really enjoyed some examples that they offered. Lisbeth, for instance, used gangs as an example of being unethical and i immediately got drawn to it. I don't know if it was the example or the way she explained it but it was my favorite from the presentation. It had me hooked!
Something about group 2 that also caught my eye, was that the members would jump in for the slides. For example, Kameron would talk about a topic, and come back again for a different topic. I like that format so that the viewers can get to know the members presented a little more.

Finally there is group 1. What stood out in this group for me was the fact that the members had to replace the slides of an absent member. I know that it is tricky to present let alone someone else’s work. Other than that, group 1's hard work does not go unnoticed. There is so much information that was new to me and that I learned from them. You can tell that each member studied their topic well enough to present to the class.

Thank you!

What fascinated me was Regina. The fact that she introduced AND concluded every single presentation is mouth-dropping. She knew of every groups project and did it all solo. So thank you Regina, we all appreciate your hard work and dedication in this class! I also want to congratulate my group. I believe we all learned and did great. It is fun getting to know one another. I love that we can join the zoom meeting whenever to get our presentations done and discuss the topic. Thank you Professor Sinkoff for these fun and educational assignments!
